Kaiser Chiefs, an NME favorite, along with Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks, just not as deservingly so, IMO. I guess I'm somewhat pleased to see these blokes on the lineup. I'm somewhat partial to British music and it always puts a smile on my face to see them get noticed here in the US. I guess you could throw them in with the british new wave reemergence.
It kinda surprises me to see that "I Predict A Riot" wasn't too successful when it was first released. The popularity only hit when it was released again after "Oh My God". Yours Truly, Angry Mob just came out recently, but I have yet had a chance to listen to it. I wasn't too impressed with "Ruby" so I'm not expecting too much more from the album. I'm guessing they'll play early to mid-day on the main stage, seems like a good slot to me.
This is another one of those "meh" bands for me. Don't get me wrong, they actually don't sound that bad at all, but there's something about them that really turns me off, I just can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the fact that they don't sound original... at all. I dunno, to me it's just your basic indie rock with slightly heavier guitars. They've toured with Tom Vek, Babyshambles, Bloc Party, Mystery Jets, and most recently Muse.
They're a pretty new band, just forming in 2003. I guess they're sweeping across the UK but I really don't see that happening here in the US. They'll probably be one of the first bands to play in the morning. Anyways, here are some tidbits for ya.
I'm actually questioning how necessary this post is. I mean, seriously, how can you be going to Coachella this year and not know who Rage Against The Machine is? What, are you coming for Fountains Of Wayne?
With all the hype that these guys are getting and the percent of people attending Sunday just to see Rage, they better melt face. I remember hearing the rumors on the Coachella boards that Goldenvoice offered $1.5 million to them to play. I also remember laughing at that rumor, thinking that there was no way in hell these guys would get back together again. Now that I think about it, I also remember nearly shitting my pants when I read that article that said they were playing along with Björk and RHCP. Ahhh, memories.
I just hope I get a good spot in the crowd. I'm not very tall by any standards and I'm sure they'll gather the largest crowd over the weekend. Doesn't matter really, it'll be a night to remember forever.

Ah, Canada's finest indie electro pop group. Well, maybe, I dunno, I'm just saying that for the sake of it. Anyways, I guess the story behind these guys is that the group originally consisted of Jeremy Greenspan and Johnny Dark. Dark left the group after several years of failing to get noticed. Then KIN heard the demo and wanted more from them. Greenspan then teamed up with his then-engineer Matt Didemus and... well... the rest is history.
They have two albums out now, Last Exit and So This Is Goodbye and just recently released The Dead Horse EP, which I have yet to hear.
Personally, I'm not too crazy about them. You know, they are the kind of band to me that if nobody else is playing that I like, then I might check them out. Some people think they may play the Sahara. Yeah, I don't see that happening. God, I really hope that doesn't happen. Anywho, here, listen. Blah.
I normally don't listen to that much hip-hop, but I do like Ghostface Killah and I'm glad to see his name on the lineup this year. For those of you who don't know, he was part of The Wu-Tang Clan (who is doing a lil tour with RATM later on this year) and has probably had the most successful solo career from the rest of his crew. He recently just released his 8th solo album, More Fish.
I started listening to him on his previous album, Fishscale. The beats were what caught me, which when I learned much of the album was produced by MF Doom, didn't surprise me at all. He's also got a fantastic voice for throwin' rhymes out. It kinda makes me wonder though who will be with him at Coachella. Sun God? Trife Da God?
I could see him playing a late evening set in one of the tents. As much as I'd personally like to check him out, they are other bands I'd rather see that will most likely play at the same time. Oh well.
Ok, on this one I'll have to admit I really don't know shit about this guy, so I'll do my best. His real name is Jose-Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao, so..... I can kinda see why he simply goes under Manu Chao. I would say his sound is latin rock, at least with his touring band, Radio Bemba Sound System.
At first I was considering not checking him out at Coachella this year, but after watching the videos below, now I just may have to. Plus they'll be a nice opener for RATM, since I'm sure they share some of the same political stances. I guess performances in the US are quite rare for him too since he isn't too well received here in the US, which is a shame.
Anyways, I'll shut up now. Yeah, some artists on the bill I'm not too familiar with, including this one. I'll just let the videos do the talking.
I thought I'd start off the blog with a band most people are highly anticipating. Actually, to be honest, I'm doing every artist at random and they just happened to be first. Odd.
The Arcade Fire are an eight-piece indie band hailing from Montreal, Quebec. They're debut album, Funeral, was released in 2004, along with the huge following that came soon after. Blogs (like this one, tee hee), magazines, websites and other sources soon began raving about this band. I first caught word of them through Pitchfork and at the time, I was quite ticked off at that site for some bad reviews they had given to some albums I actually enjoyed so I ignored anything they praised. Stupid me. That caused me to jump on the Arcade Fire bandwagon a bit late.
Anyways, they received even more attention when they played alongside David Bowie at some fashion show and when they blew away the crowd at...... Coachella in 2005. Do they deserve it? FUCK YEAH! From what I've heard and seen from clips, they are a great live band. They are going to accumulate a huge crowd this year. Supposedly, they are playing on the main stage, probably before Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Their sound. Ehhh, kinda hard to describe. Orchestrated indie awesomeness? I dunno, you make up your own description...
Alright, so I decided to make a blog previewing all the artists that will perform at this year's Coachella festival. Mainly, this is for my friends who are coming with and aren't familiar with all the artists on the bill like I am, but I'll also post it at other places for others to enjoy. Well, almost all. Normally in the past I'd be able to just recommend several artists that were the best of the best. However, this year that task seems a bit more daunting. There are sooooooooooooooo many good artists in the lineup this year. IMHO, this may be the best lineup yet, or at least within the top 3 lineups. Also, I'm new at this whole blogging thing, so bear with me here. Anyways, I dunno when I'll actually get the ball rolling on this thing, maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week. I honestly don't know, but hopefully not too far from now. Hope you all enjoy!
